Pregnancy and Fertility: The Importance of Pleasure

By Deirdre Morris

Yesterday we considered the wisdom of the clitoris….and its clear message regarding the importance and value of pleasure.

Where does pleasure (any kind) appear in your life….in your day? What are your pleasures?

Are they really pleasurable….does your body delight in them without depleting itself in any way? Or are they habits that lift you briefly out of the humdrum and add stress to your body ?

Is pleasure something that is timetabled in….that has its own space in your day? Just scan a day and notice all the places in which pleasure appears.

It does not have to be a major event. It could be enjoying the sunlight on your face, a smile in the crowd or watching your breath on a frosty morning.

But nature placed the clitoris (and the 8000 nerve endings!) to remind us that pleasure plays a significant role in your evolution. It is intimately connected with your fertility.

It belongs very much in your life AND in your story of pregnancy, fertility, birth and motherhood.

Could your relationship with pleasure be having an impact on your fertility, pregnancy, birth, relationship and life? If so, what might that be?

In joy,

Deirdre Morris

Pleasure is so important and so difficult for modern women-whatever their goals are. I told a friend that she needed to learn how to “self pleasure”, to schedule it like any other important thing she does for herself and she has not done it yet. It is such a stress reliever and so empowering to have a pure pleasure source that is not dependent on anyone else.

I am struggling with the pleasure around food. I recently had weight loss surgery and hoped that I would be done with food. After two weeks on a liquid diet I thought I was going to kill someone and was feeling better so have been able to add mushy foods into my diet. For the first few days, it was pure pleasure to be able to eat and have a full belly. By yesterday, I was already feeling guilty for being hungry, for wanting food, for wanting satisfaction and satiation.

I am praying and working on accepting my humanity-my animalness-the part of me that wants sex and food.

I found you on the goddess blog circle (www.goddess.com.au).

    Thank you!

    Hi Celeste!

Thank you for your post and your sharing.

Your comment ‘I am struggling with pleasure (around food)’ is so telling and so familiar.

    We ’struggle’ with pleasure.

Interesting really when you think about it!

And we ‘work’ with sex and food.

    Hmmmm….

I wonder if a different approach might allow in more satisfaction and fulfillment?

    In joy,

    Deirdre
