Thanks Deirdre for posting this letter from Dr. Northrup. She is a gem among physicians who is truly an advocate for all women wherever they find themselves in their life passage.

It is so upsetting the extent to which the health of women and children are subject to market forces here in the States and elsewhere.

Wyeth is one of the leading producers of artificial baby milk; much of their vast fortune comes from producing and marketing both synthetic concoctions of female hormones derived from horses urine and infant "formulas" made from the modified milk of cows.

It is absolutely ridiculous that the FDA would be trying to eliminate bioidentical hormones which have been around since the beginning of the 20'th century. They actually relieve some of the unpleasant symptoms of diminishing hormones and are given in doses tailored to each woman.

Perhaps it is a case of sour grapes...Wyyeth may be worried that they will lose their control over this burgeoning market of baby boomers if the bioidentical hormones are allowed to continue to co-exist with their product which has a questionable safety and efficacy profile.

Thanks to Dr. Northrup and other outspoken advocates like Suzanne Somers, we women are being encouraged to make choices for our own health and well-being around the issue of hormone replacement that are not about the bottom-line of big drug companies.

As a woman, a nurse, a lactation consultant and an advocate for women and babies, I am so thrilled that you are highlighting this important issue here.

What a wonderful magical beginning for baby to have mom be empowered and inspired by such wisdom.

Thanks for posting this letter -- I've already emailed it to a bunch of people. Christian Northrup is just so awesome! Check out womentowomen.com for lots of great health advice -- including tons of info on bioidenticals. Women to Women was the clinic Dr. Northrup helped found in Yarmouth, Maine and the site has all of the clinic's teachings, etc.
